Ripple has announced over $5 million in new funding for Asia-Pacific universities through its University Blockchain Research Initiative (UBRI), expanding its blockchain innovation push in the region.
Covering six countries, the initiative includes renewed partnerships in South Korea, Japan, and Singapore, along with new grants awarded in Taiwan and Australia.

The Asia-Pacific region leads in digital asset adoption and advanced payment technologies, driven by progressive regulations, strong innovation appetite, and vibrant creator communities.
South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, And Singapore Reap Benefits From Ripple’s Investment
Ripple is significantly expanding its academic footprint in the Asia-Pacific region through targeted investments in top universities.
Ripple has allocated $1.1 million over six years to Korea University in South Korea, targeting research in blockchain scalability, data privacy, and cryptographic advancements.
This builds upon Ripple’s prior collaboration with Yonsei University, reinforcing its long-term commitment to the country’s academic ecosystem.
In Japan, Ripple has extended its University Blockchain Research Initiative (UBRI) grants to Kyoto University and the University of Tokyo, bringing total funding to over $1.5 million.
These grants aim to drive innovation in decentralized finance (DeFi) and blockchain interoperability—two critical areas for the future of digital assets.
Singapore has also become a key hub in Ripple’s strategy, with new funding awarded to Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and ongoing support for the National University of Singapore (NUS).
Combined, these grants have pushed Ripple’s total academic investment in Singapore past $3 million.

Ripple Commits $11M to APAC Universities for Blockchain and Crypto Research
Ripple’s University Blockchain Research Initiative (UBRI) has invested over $11 million in universities across the Asia-Pacific region to support research in blockchain, cryptocurrency, and fintech.
This growing commitment reflects Ripple’s goal of fostering academic innovation and developing future talent in the digital finance space.
As part of this effort, Ripple will host its 7th annual UBRI Connect during XRP Ledger Apex 2025.
A special Pre-Summit will take place at the National University of Singapore (NUS), bringing together scholars and researchers for academic panels, workshops, and knowledge-sharing sessions.
The event will feature contributions from 60 leading institutions across 28 countries, highlighting UBRI’s global reach and its role in advancing blockchain research through international collaboration.
