Satoshi Nakamoto, the creator of Bitcoin, is probably the most important and highly valued person in the cryptocurrency and blockchain industry.
Satoshi Gallery unveiled the restored Satoshi statue earlier today. This unveiling highlights the crypto community’s strength as they restored the statue.
Stolen Nakamoto statue gets restored
Shortly after Swiss National Day festivities, a bronze statue of Satoshi Nakamoto, the enigmatic founder of Bitcoin, was taken from its welded base at Parco Ciani. Even though the statue was later recovered from a lake nearby, it was in no condition to stand and use.
Using what looked to be tungsten carbide discs and gasoline-powered angle grinders, vandals removed the sculpture and discarded the “Disappearing Satoshi” installation into neighbouring Lake Lugano. According to witnesses, the monument was still there on the evening of August 1 but disappeared by morning.
Today, the statue has been finally restored. The CEO of Tether, Paolo Ardoino, celebrated the move, saying, “We’re all Satoshi (-1).”
Paolo Ardoino previously reported that a Change.org petition has recently topped 1,000 signatures, calling for the restoration of the Satoshi artwork monument that was destroyed earlier this month.
The history
A life-size monument of the mysterious inventor of Bitcoin was unveiled by Plan ₿, a project between Tether and the City of Lugano. The monument, which sits in front of Lugano’s renowned Villa Ciani, was made by artist Valentina Picozzi to symbolise Satoshi’s mysterious legacy.
As onlookers shift their perspective, the monument vanishes, symbolising Nakamoto’s disengagement from the public once the revolutionary decentralised financial system was implemented.
Noteworthy statues to honour Satoshi
In front of a well-known mural with a Bitcoin theme, a third monument in honour of Satoshi Nakamoto was just unveiled in Tokyo, Japan.
With a man wearing a hood and operating a laptop constructed of vertical metal slats, the sculpture by Satoshi Gallery is very simple and resembles monuments that have been displayed in Lugano, Switzerland, and El Zonte, El Salvador.
The Tokyo statue represents the original concept of Bitcoin. Japan has always played a significant role in the early history of Bitcoin. As implied by his name, Nakamoto is Japanese, and early Bitcoin activity is associated with Japan.
Also, Vietnam will become the fifth nation in the world to hold the Satoshi Nakamoto monument when it is formally installed at the Blockchain Gallery in Hanoi on September 9, 2025.
