Giggle Academy, the new edutech project by Changpeng “CZ” Zhao, co-founder of Binance, gained worldwide attention in hours of launching, raising more than $1.3 million in donations in just half a day.

According to BscScan, the project’s donation wallet showed over 1,311 BNB raised since launching the project on Sunday.

A lot of that support came from the crypto community and was funded largely when donations were tied to a newly created memecoin, “Giggle.”

This quick storehouse of fundraising serves as a testament to CZ’s influence in the field and interest from the community in educational blockchain projects.

However, in CZ’s post on X, he stated that while they had raised over $1 million in donations, Giggle Academy does not have any token, nor have they created any.

Memecoin “Giggle” Plays Key Role in Funding

The “Giggle” memecoin, which was initiated by the Giggle Fund, helped generate a substantial amount of the donations.

In contrast with standard token donations, our project structure allows trading fees from the token to go directly to Giggle Academy as BNB, providing a constant stream of donations without affecting token holders.

At the beginning, CZ stated that any contributions in a memecoin would be converted into major altcoins to limit market risk, and advised investors at the outset not to expect protection from market liquidity when selling.

In contrast, Giggle community members explained that Giggle is designed to mitigate negative trading impacts, since we charge fees in BNB rather than selling mass amounts of tokens.

This exciting payment model illustrates how memecoins can creatively support large-scale individual charitable causes and ecosystem-calibrated donations.

Giggle Academy’s Vision for Global Education

Giggle Academy provides free education to students from Kindergarten to Year 12, targeting underserved communities in developing countries, according to its concept paper found on its website.

The platform seeks to marry traditional subjects, such as reading, science, writing, and math, with new-age courses in negotiation, blockchain, finance, and artificial intelligence.

Importantly, the initiative will also not include history or collective history (i.e., religion), due to potential conflicts on a global scale.

Giggle Academy further encourages teacher-generated content, allowing teacher-authors to upload educational content and potentially earn reward payments, correlated to performance views and student engagement.

CZ has established a large agenda and goal to reach from 100 million to 1 billion learners around the world, demonstrating the goal to be a global project.

CZ’s Broader Track Record in Philanthropy

Giggle Academy is one of the latest initiatives as part of CZ’s long history of charitable efforts and those that tie into the Binance ecosystem.

Earlier this year, CZ pledged 1,000 BNB, which would be worth more than $624,000 at that time, to support the earthquake victims in Thailand and Myanmar after a deadly 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck the area, according to UnoCrypto

Then, earlier this September, we reported that two patients thanked CZ’s charitable initiatives for funding their life-saving surgeries, which further illustrates the human-focused impact of his giving.

Since late 2024, it has been reported that CZ’s charitable initiatives have touched the lives of over 69,000 people in various countries, including a combination of emergency humanitarian relief and long-term programs.

With Giggle Academy, CZ appears to be taking this legacy one step further by targeting education as a means for empowerment and to advance global society.
