Toncoin Announces End Of Bridge Services To Ethereum And BNB Smart Chain

Toncoin developers announced that the Toncoin Bridge will officially retire on May 10, 2025. After this date, users can no longer move TON tokens from the TON blockchain to Ethereum or BNB Smart Chain. Any transfers made before May 10 will still be claimable.

Legacy of the Bridge

The company noted that in TON’s early days, the bridge was essential. Before centralised exchanges listed TON, or decentralised finance platforms launched on its network, the only way to trade Toncoin was to send it through the bridge to Ethereum or BNB Smart Chain.

There, users could swap TON for other tokens on Uniswap or PancakeSwap. Later, the bridge also supported wrapped assets like jUSDT, helping to bootstrap TON’s DeFi ecosystem.

Shift to Native and Modern Cross-Chain Tools

Today, TON has grown far beyond those beginnings. The network now connects with top cross-chain platforms such as LayerZero, Stargate, Symbiosis, and Rhino.fi.

These modern tools allow seamless transfers and greater security. With native USDt-TON, robust decentralised exchanges, and a thriving DeFi landscape, there is no longer a need for the old bridge to exit the TON network.

Security and Infrastructure Considerations

The bridge’s retirement aims to improve safety by removing ageing infrastructure. Bridge oracles will start unstaking their TON as operations wind down.

Despite running over several phases since 2021, the bridge processed more than 101 million TON transfers between Ethereum and BNB Smart Chain without a single security breach. It served over 35,000 Ethereum wallets and 113,000 BNB Smart Chain users.

Expert Perspective

Industry observer Matt Kurosawa noted that retiring the Toncoin Bridge aligns with TON’s goal to embrace fully native solutions and state-of-the-art cross-chain architectures.

He sees this move as a commitment to a forward-looking network, rather than continually patching outdated tools that struggle to meet evolving demands.

Preparing for a New Chapter

A separate announcement will detail the deprecation of token transfers as newer cross-chain technologies take over.

By phasing out the bridge, TON clears the path for faster and more secure interoperability. Users are thanked for their support in the network’s formative years, and the community is encouraged to adopt the latest solutions.

The sunsetting of Toncoin Bridge marks a significant milestone in TON’s maturity. From its pivotal role in TON’s birth to its flawless security record, the bridge has served its purpose well.

Now, as Toncoin transitions to advanced cross-chain platforms and strengthens its native DeFi offerings, the network stands ready for its next stage, one defined by speed, safety, and seamless global connectivity.
