Tatsumeeko Team Shuts Down Lumina Fates To Focus On New Crypto-Powered Discord Game Wander

Tatsumeeko’s development team announced they will stop working on their original game, Lumina Fates, and move on to a new product called Project Wander. 

In a blog post, the team explained that after eight rounds of playtests, the results did not give them the confidence to continue.

The announcement came in mid-2022 when Lumina Fates began development, and now marks a change in direction for the Web3 gaming project.

Discontinuation of Tatsumeeko: Lumina Fates

Lumina Fates was an ambitious Web3 idle strategy role-playing game on Discord. Players took on the role of otherworlders who washed up on a peaceful island within the Federation. 

The game combined loot, progression, building, community, and multiplayer elements. Throughout its development, users participated in eight playtests. 

The testers showed creativity and camaraderie, highlighting why the team is passionate about making games. Still, the developers felt the outcome would not be strong enough to sustain long-term growth.

The blog post expressed gratitude to those who supported Lumina Fates. It noted that many ideas spark excitement, but translating them into a lasting game can prove challenging. 

As a result, the team decided to halt further work on this project and focus on new ideas that align more closely with their strengths and goals.

Shifting Focus to Project: Wander

Project Wander represents Tatsumeeko’s fresh start. Rather than asking users to launch an external app, Wander will run entirely within Discord. This approach aims to make gameplay more immediate and social. 

The developers want to create a fantasy life simulation that thrives in the places where players already gather. By building the game directly in Discord, interactions become smoother and more engaging.

With Project Wander, the team hopes to transform group chats and digital hangouts into vibrant realms where players live out their adventures. Instead of lengthy development cycles, they plan to ship updates more often. 

By working with a smaller, agile team, the creators can respond quickly to player feedback and make constant adjustments. This way, the game can grow organically alongside its community, adapting as new ideas and challenges emerge.

New Development Strategy

In their announcement, the Tatsumeeko team explained that they are stepping away from extended, traditional production timelines. Going forward, they want to emphasise frequent releases and continuous transparency. 

If something works well, players will know right away. If it needs improvement, the team will communicate openly about changes. This method aims to keep fans invested and ensure that the game evolves based on real-time feedback.

The decision reflects a clear understanding of modern game development in the Web3 space. By moving toward a lighter, more flexible process, the team can test features quickly, learn from mistakes, and keep the community at the heart of the project. 

This model also helps manage resources more wisely, concentrating effort on what players enjoy most.

What This Means for the Web3 Gaming World?

Tatsumeeko’s pivot signals a broader shift in blockchain-based gaming. Many early Web3 titles prioritised complex mechanics and long development cycles, only to find that user interest dwindled before launch. 

By contrast, integrating projects directly into familiar platforms like Discord can lower barriers to entry. Players no longer need to download separate applications or learn new interfaces. Instead, they connect with the game where they already socialise, making it easier to draw in and retain users.
