Canadian developer Peter Todd denied claims about him being the real Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto. The claims of him being the real Nakamoto took heat when the waited HBO documentary directed by Cullen Hoback identified Todd as the real Nakamoto.

Todd is a core developer who has been associated with the cryptocurrency world since 2010. Todd refuted the identity claims stating that Hoback is “grasping at straws.”

On his X feed, Todd has time and again posted “I am Satoshi“. But this claim is rather a solidarity support for the creator’s request for anonymity.

Why Is Satoshi Nakamoto’s Identity Important For the Crypto World?

Ever since the launch of Bitcoin in 2009, the mystery surrounding Satoshi Nakamoto has confused many online. A financial revolution started when a pseudonym known as Nakamoto released the first decentralized digital money to the world.

The identity of the Bitcoin creator holds supreme importance to everyone in the sector. Cryptocurrencies have now gained a firm ground in a financial space, however, this wasn’t the case 10 years ago. The main question many centralized market participants asked at that time was about who created Bitcoin and how can one trust the person?

Also, Nakamoto’s final letter to the world signaled that he had moved on and wanted to concentrate on other things. Remarkably, wallets associated with Satoshi still have approximately 1.1 million Bitcoins, equivalent to roughly $67 billion in current currency. All of this, though, is lost and cannot be recovered.

Who Was Crypto Community Betting On As the Real Nakamoto?

Ever since the hype around HBO’s documentary took the market by storm, even crypto participants were making their own bets on who the real Satoshi Nakamoto could be.

Initially, discussions on the decentralized prediction market platform Polymarket accelerated, with many ranking Len Sassaman as the front-runner.

However, that quickly changed with many placing bets that the Bitcoin Mystery man is American computer scientist Nick Szabo. After the release of the documentary, all these claims have now come to an end with many trying to digest the facts put out by HBO.
