Iranian Authorities Arrest 27 Years Old Man Suspected of Spying for Israeli Operatives in Exchange for Crypto

Israeli authorities have arrested a 27-year-old man, Or Beilin, from Tel Aviv, accusing him of conducting espionage activities for Iranian operatives in return for cryptocurrency payments.

According to a joint statement by the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) and Tel Aviv District Police, Beilin allegedly completed multiple intelligence-gathering missions on behalf of Iranian handlers.

These missions included photographing military-sensitive sites, defacing public areas with political graffiti, and maintaining secret communications.

The operatives reportedly reached out to him through social media, a tactic now identified as a key recruitment method used by Iranian intelligence networks to target Israeli citizens.

Crypto Payments Exchanged for Espionage Tasks Raise Alarm

Authorities confirmed that Beilin was compensated in cryptocurrency, receiving approximately $500 for each mission, ultimately accumulating thousands of dollars.

The financial trail highlights an increasingly concerning trend: foreign intelligence agencies using crypto to mask payments for illicit operations.

During Beilin’s arrest, Israeli law enforcement seized various digital devices, including computers and storage equipment believed to be linked to his covert communications with Iranian handlers.

He was brought before the Tel Aviv Magistrate’s Court and will remain in custody until at least June 26 as investigations continue.

Additional Suspects Tied to Espionage for Iran Also Apprehended

Beilin is not the only Israeli citizen implicated in this growing espionage ring.

Authorities have also detained 28-year-old Dmitri Cohen from Haifa, who is accused of gathering intelligence on Amit Yardeni, the fiancée of Avner Netanyahu, the son of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Cohen was similarly paid in crypto, receiving thousands of dollars for carrying out multiple tasks.

Another unnamed 19-year-old suspect was arrested in Israel’s Sharon region, expanding the scope of what officials are calling a coordinated attempt by Iranian operatives to compromise Israeli national security.

Cyberwarfare and Crypto-Driven Espionage Heighten Regional Tensions

These arrests follow a week marked by intensified cyber conflict between Israel and Iran, which has been reported to come to an end

A pro-Israel hacking group claimed responsibility for a massive breach of Iran’s leading crypto exchange, Nobitex, siphoning over $100 million in digital assets.

The hackers alleged ties between the platform and Iran’s intelligence services, further inflaming tensions between the two nations.

Meanwhile, Israeli authorities have issued warnings urging citizens not to engage with foreign agents online, as the digital battlefield, especially involving cryptocurrencies, becomes increasingly dangerous.

Despite the geopolitical uncertainty, Bitcoin and broader crypto markets showed resilience, signaling traders’ willingness to bet on high-risk assets even amidst rising espionage threats.
