Brave, the privacy-focused web browser, has unveiled the “.brave” domain in partnership with Unstoppable Domains.
The new onchain top-level domain allows users to replace long cryptocurrency wallet addresses with simple, human-readable names.
First Web Browser to Launch its Own Blockchain Domain
The domain is currently accessible to Brave’s more than 85 million monthly active users and can be minted as NFTs on the Polygon blockchain.
The goal of this action is to grant people ownership of their digital identities without charging for renewals. Brave claims that the functionality combines the strength of Web3 with its popular browser.
Minting and Ownership
.brave domains are issued as non-fungible tokens on Polygon. Once a user mints a .brave domain, they fully own it and never have to pay renewal fees. Ownership is recorded on the blockchain, ensuring that no one else can take the domain.
Because the domain is onchain, it resolves across multiple blockchains. This means names work not only on Polygon, but also on Ethereum, Solana, Sonic, Base, and even Bitcoin.
Integration and Compatibility
Brave’s partnership with Unstoppable Domains makes .brave domains work seamlessly inside the browser and the Brave Wallet.
Starting with version 1.81, set to reach Release on August 5, 2025, users will be able to enter a .brave name instead of a long crypto address. Direct payments to .brave addresses will also be possible with the Brave Wallet.
This integration lets people send and receive crypto with fewer mistakes, since typing a short name is simpler than entering a long string of letters and numbers.

User Benefits
With a .brave domain, anyone can build a verifiable onchain identity. Brave users can showcase their digital assets and wallet connections through UD.me, a profile system provided by Unstoppable Domains.
The domain also supports hosting websites on the InterPlanetary File System (IPFS). These censorship-resistant sites can be accessed by typing the .brave address into the Brave browser, without paying traditional hosting fees.
The domain also opens the door to badge-gated messaging, meaning users can securely exchange messages with others who meet certain onchain criteria.
Access to Decentralised Apps
By owning a .brave domain, users gain frictionless access to dApps, games, and metaverse platforms via Login with Unstoppable.
This feature lets people use their .brave identity to sign in across multiple Web3 sites, avoiding the need to create new accounts or remember extra passwords.
Domain trading is also possible through the Unstoppable Marketplace, where people can buy and sell .brave names just like any other NFT.
Expanding the Basic Attention Token Ecosystem
As part of the rollout, Unstoppable Domains is becoming a Partner in Brave’s Rewards 3.0. The goal of this action is to increase the Basic Attention Token’s (BAT) reach. With over 99% of BAT’s 1.5 billion supply in circulation, BAT now sits among Ethereum’s most held tokens.
Already, 1.5 million verified creators worldwide accept BAT. The new .brave domains are expected to drive more users into the Brave Rewards ecosystem, boosting BAT adoption.
Brave’s Web3 Leadership
The .brave launch highlights Brave’s role in advancing Web3 adoption. The browser has already built an independent search engine, a multi-chain crypto wallet, and a system that rewards users with BAT tokens for viewing privacy-respecting ads.
By integrating .brave domains, the company continues its effort to put privacy and ownership back in users’ hands. Brave CTO and co-founder Brian Bondy says that .brave is more than just a domain. He sees it as a user-owned identity layer that is native to the Brave ecosystem.
Industry observers view .brave as a bold move toward an open internet. The introduction is a major step forward for digital identification, according to Sandy Carter, COO of Unstoppable Domains. The partnership aims to empower users instead of centralised platforms.
