Google rolled out a new advertisement policy on December 21st, especially targeting the UK. According to the official announcement, Google plans to revise its policy on cryptocurrencies and similar items in January 2025 to clarify the parameters and requirements for advertising cryptocurrency-related goods and services.

Advertisers who provide cryptocurrency exchanges aimed at the UK may start running ads for those goods and services from January 15, 2025, provided they fulfill certain criteria and get Google’s certification.

Google’s new rules for the K area come amid a rise in crypto usage in the region and the government’s strict watch over the sector.

Google Brings New Ad Rules In UK

The new rules for advertisement set out by Google will differentiate between wallet types and certification. According to the official release, Google will permit ads promoting cryptocurrency wallets and exchanges that target the UK as long as the advertiser is registered with the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).

Additionally, Google will permit advertisements for hardware wallets that are intended to store the private keys of NFTs, cryptocurrencies, or other assets based on cryptocurrencies but do not provide extra services like asset trading, buying, selling, or swapping.

Google’s Crypto Policies Keep Changing With Time

A number of policy changes have been made over Google’s experience with cryptocurrency advertising. All cryptocurrency-related advertisements were first prohibited in 2018 because of worries about market instability and massive scams.

In order to safeguard users from any financial losses and preserve the integrity of its advertising platform, this complete restriction was implemented.

However, Google loosened their position in 2021 after realizing the cryptocurrency market’s increasing credibility. Under stringent guidelines, it started to permit advertisements from approved cryptocurrency exchanges and wallet providers.

Google Permits Bitcoin ETF Ads

Google has time and again changed its crypto advertisement rules, especially when the market trends have proved a certain demand. A good example of this was the policy change after the Bitcoin ETF launch.

Asset managers including BlackRock, Fidelity, Grayscale, Invesco, and Bitwise launched a vigorous web push to promote their new Bitcoin ETFs after Google modified its policy to permit advertisements for “cryptocurrency coin trusts.”

Research claims that when search phrases like “Bitcoin ETF” are used, Bitcoin ETFs targeted for retail investors usually appear in search results.

The change in the policy came after Bitcoin ETFs saw a blockbuster start from investors, braking records ever since the green signal for the trading came.
