On 11th January, In a significant humanitarian initiative reported on X, Ripple and MoonPay have jointly contributed $50,000 in RLUSD to the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation (LAFD Foundation) to support first responders battling California wildfires.
The donation demonstrates the cryptocurrency industry’s engagement in real-world crisis response, with both companies indicating they are continuing to evaluate additional ways to support these critical emergency efforts.
The timing of this donation is particularly crucial as Southern California faces escalating wildfire challenges.
Current Wildfire Situation and Emergency Measures
The Palisades Fire has intensified, with a significant new flare-up on its eastern portion moving northeast, prompting expanded mandatory evacuation orders.
Brentwood is also threatened, affected area ranges from Sunset Boulevard north to Encino Reservoir to the 405 Freeway West to Mandeville Canyon.
Transportation infrastructure has been impacted, with authorities closing both northbound and southbound Getty Center Dr. and Skirball Center Dr. off-ramps on Interstate 405.
Due to the emergency, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office has put into place a 6 to 6 curfew in all evacuation zones ordered out in both the Palisades and Eaton fires; and violators can face fines of up to $1,000 or imprisonment.
