Ron Branstetter, the creator of the viral meme coin Unicorn Fart Dust (UFD), has announced a significant loss after his Phantom wallet was hacked, resulting in the theft of $6.6 million worth of UFD tokens, and several other crypto assets.
Branstetter made the emotional revelation during an emergency livestream, where he expressed heartbreak over the situation while reassuring his community of his continued commitment to the project.
How did the Hack Take Place?
In a post shared on X on January 27, Branstetter explained that he had checked his wallet after noticing fluctuations in the price of UFD. Upon updating his wallet, he was devastated to discover that the funds had been drained.
“Somebody has drained all 6.6 million of the Unicorn Fart Dust tokens that were in there and the Solana that had been generously donated to us,” Branstetter tearfully shared. “I did not sell. I did not decide to get out of this. My wallet was hacked.”
Branstetter also referenced a prior hack related to the UFD project, but unlike that incident, he was unsure how this latest breach occurred.
Despite following recommended security protocols, he expressed regret for not moving the tokens into cold storage, a precautionary measure often recommended for securing crypto assets.
A Setback for UFD and Its Community
The hack has caused significant damage to UFD’s market performance. According to CoinGecko data, the token was trading at $0.139, down by 19.1% in the past 72 hours, with a market cap of approximately $133.2 million at the time of writing.
Despite this setback, Branstetter remained optimistic and reassured supporters during the livestream. “Nothing has changed about Unicorn Fart Dust,” he stated. “Good attracts good, and I still believe in this community.”
He went on to reflect on the project’s six-week journey, underscoring the meaningful relationships and shared experiences that have defined UFD.

Rising Crypto Hacks and Security Concerns
Branstetter’s loss highlights the increasing prevalence of hacks within the crypto space. Security breaches have become an alarming trend, as hackers target vulnerable wallets, exchanges, and platforms.
This week, the AdsPower fingerprinting browser fell victim to a serious hack, resulting in the theft of over $4.1 million in crypto assets.
According to AdsPower’s public notice, the breach occurred between January 21 and January 24, 2025, affecting users who had installed or updated wallet extensions such as MetaMask.
Similarly, the DeFi sector has faced its challenges. The P2P trading platform Noones was attacked between January 1 and 2, 2025, with hackers making off with an estimated $7.9 million in cryptocurrencies, spanning Ethereum, Tron, Solana, and Binance Smart Chain (BSC).
Cryptocurrency investigator ZachXBT has been tracking these events, revealing the growing scale and sophistication of cyberattacks on the crypto ecosystem.
The Origins of Unicorn Fart Dust
Branstetter’s journey into the world of cryptocurrency began with scepticism. A gold and silver enthusiast and the creator of the Rons Basement YouTube channel, Branstetter originally coined the term “Unicorn Fart Dust” as a way to mock the perceived intangibility of both cryptocurrencies and fiat currencies.
Over time, however, he embraced the potential of crypto and developed UFD, which quickly gained traction due to its playful nature and the broader meme coin culture.
Despite the recent setbacks, Branstetter remains committed to his project, confident that the community will continue to rally behind Unicorn Fart Dust.
However, his experience serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing security challenges that crypto enthusiasts face, making it clear that security measures need to be strengthened to prevent further breaches.
