Ripple has once again made headlines with its latest move towards social cause. In an effort to aid in the aftermath of Hurricanes Helene and Milton, Ripple is contributing $250,000.
The money raised will help World Central Kitchen (WCK) and Volunteer Florida to assist affected communities.
Both WCK and Volunteer Florida are non-profit government organizations that work towards the cause of betterment. WCK provides populations affected by natural disasters and humanitarian crises with fast, fresh, nutritious meals. On the other hand, Volunteer Florida is the premier volunteer and national service organization in Florida.
Additionally, Ripple is planning to match contributions made by Ripple staff members in a 2:1 ratio.
Hurricane Helene and Milton Cause Widespread Destructions
Ripple’s efforts come as an aftermath of the destruction caused by Hurricane Helene and Milton. Hurricane Helene was formed in the Gulf of Mexico over record-high sea surface temperatures (SSTs).
In the days before Helene arrived, a series of slow-moving storms built along a stalled cold front, creating a huge destruction in the area that was hit by the strong winds.
As the second-most powerful Atlantic hurricane ever measured over the Gulf of Mexico, Hurricane Milton was a tremendously strong and destructive tropical cyclone. Milton touched down on Florida’s west coast, less than two weeks after Hurricane Helene destroyed the Big Bend section of the state.
These natural calamities have left many displaced and many without means to eat and survive.
Ripple’s Social Work Not New To Society
Throughout this time, Ripple has been actively contributing to positive change via Ripple Impact, its social impact generator. It has promised millions for various charity initiatives and matched donations for storm aid in Maui.
Chris Larsen, one of the co-founders of Ripple, is a philanthropist in his own right, having contributed to causes including small business assistance and education.
