The cryptocurrency game Infected, which simulates a pandemic scenario, has revealed a major change to its blockchain approach.

The game has chosen to switch from Ethereum’s Layer-2 solution, Base, to Solana’s Layer-1 blockchain. This action was taken as Infected seeks to reduce transaction costs, increase scalability, and improve performance.

The move comes at a time when the broader market has also expressed a preference for Solana over Ethereum, making Infected stay in tandem with broader market trends.

Why is Infected Switching Blockchains?

Base is one of Ethereum’s Layer-2 solutions, which execute transactions off the main Ethereum blockchain in order to increase scalability. But the team at Infected has pointed to transaction fees and speed restrictions as major reasons for their move.

In a X post, the backend team stated “Over the past few years, we’ve experimented with various consumer apps. Last year, we narrowed our focus to one concept: speculative simulation games.”

They added, “We think speculation has huge potential beyond just memecoins, and in the next 1-2 years, most memecoins will evolve into something completely different from today’s format.”

Infected Explains Reasons For Solana Switch

Infected explained, “Our first game, Infecteddotfun, went extremely viral and dominated CT. Our X account grew from 0 to 50K followers in less than two months, and 130K people signed up in just 48 hours.”

“However, here’s the deal: when we launched, Base couldn’t handle the volume of transactions coming in at once. The gas prices spiked, and most people couldn’t complete transactions for the first 30 minutes. Since it’s a 7-day momentum game, this issue completely destroyed our hype. Many users DMed us, saying they couldn’t play the game and ended up leaving.”

This highlights that for fast-paced games, Solana is a desirable option because of its high throughput and cheap transaction costs.

Why is Solana Better?

The Infected team outlined a number of factors that led them to switch from Base, Ethereum’s Layer-2 solution, to Solana.

Solana’s proactive emphasis on “real-world applications,” especially in fields like gaming, DeFi, and NFTs, is one important component. Blockchain-based games, which demand quick and easy transactions, thrive in Solana’s strong ecosystem and cheap transaction fees.

The team also cited Solana’s expanding user base as a key element, pointing out that its scalability and high throughput continue to draw in both developers and consumers.

Since Solana can manage high-volume transactions without the high gas fees or congestion that Ethereum frequently experiences, many blockchain games and decentralized applications are choosing it over Ethereum more and more.

This action is part of a larger trend where developers are using Solana because of its better performance, scalability, and cheaper prices in order to improve user experience and encourage adoption.
